Anthony Joshua defeated US born Jermaine Franklin 118-111 & 117-111 (x2) to get his first win in 3 years.
The former 2 time unified champion of the world bounced back from 2 straight defeats with a win in what was a Lowkey outing for him in relation to what he’s been used to. He was back in the O2 Arena where he won his first title 7 years ago.
Jermaine Franklin, himself coming off a very disputed split decision loss to Dillian Whyte on his last outing, came to out up a fight. However, AJ shut him down for the most part, landed the more impactful shots and controlled with his jab and footwork.
Joshua out landed Franklin 117-58 in a comfortable performance but the end of the fight was dicey as both men met head to head after the bell. The ruckus was quickly dispelled and everybody got back to business.
The former champion welcomed a fight with WBC Tyson Fury in the summer, saying “that is what the people want, the ball is in your court.”
He hopes to return back to training in Texas under new head trainer Derrick James and get another fight in the summer
