Unwinding after an intense week.

Written by Mary Elero · 1 min read >

The first intensive week for my cohort #MMBA4 has finally come to an end. This is the longest, most stressful and rewarding week I’ve had in a very long time. I am extremely grateful for the gift of amazing people in my cohort.

I did not believe I would make it out of this intensive week still smiling and considering the thought to forge ahead in this programme. I needed a lot of motivation to pull through and the few people I spoke to were very helpful.

The LBS community decided to end this week with the Dean’s cup competition and inter-cohort team bonding event. In my opinion, I would believe that It was strategically placed at the end of an intensive week as a way to unwind, relax and learn. The alumni speakers at the inter-cohort event were thoughtfully selected and that session changed my mentality towards the ABP course.

One of the speakers, Ms Temitope Yusuff mentioned that ABP was her favourite course and she currently applies some of the lessons from ABP in her workplace. That particular session was another motivation I needed to take my ABP course more seriously.

The football competition was another interesting part of the event and I am glad I participated as one of the cheer leaders. Relaxing after every intensive week should be taken seriously by every member of the LBS community. Here are some ideas on how to unwind:

  • Practice relaxation techniques: Try deep breathing exercises to calm your mind and relax your body.
  • Disconnect from technology: Turn off your phone and computer and take a break from social media to disconnect from the outside world and focus on yourself.
  • Get outside: Spend time in nature, go for a walk or just sit outside and soak up some sunshine. Being in nature can help reduce stress and improve your mood.
  • Read a book: Reading a good book can be a great way to unwind and escape from the stress of daily life.
  • Get plenty of sleep: Make sure you’re getting enough sleep each night. Lack of sleep can contribute to stress and anxiety, so it’s important to get a good night’s rest.
  • Take a bath: Soaking in a warm bath with some essential oils or bath salts can be a relaxing way to unwind and soothe tired muscles.
  • Spend time with loved ones: Spending time with friends or family can help you relax and have fun. Whether it’s watching a movie, playing games, or just talking, spending time with loved ones can be a great way to unwind, relieve stress and improve your mood. You might want to plan a dinner party, go out for drinks, or have a movie night.
  • Practice self-care: Take time to take care of yourself, whether it’s getting a massage, taking a nap, or doing something you enjoy. Do it!

Remember, it’s important to take time to unwind and recharge after a busy week. Prioritize your well-being and take care of yourself. Everyone is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Try different strategies until you find what works best for you.

“Self-care is how you take your power back.” – Lalah Delia

Until next time, be kind to yourself.
