The first Intensive week has just been concluded and the course I found really interesting and thought provoking was Analysis of Business Problems with a focus on critical thinking. This concept has opened my mind to the importance of thinking critically in all areas of my life, especially in making decisions that have a significant impact on my personal and professional life.
Critical thinking is the process of analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting information to make a well-informed decision. It involves examining all the available evidence, assessing its relevance, and using logical reasoning to arrive at a conclusion. The importance of critical thinking in decision making cannot be overemphasized. It helps to reduce errors, biases, and assumptions that can lead to poor decision making.
In Mrs Anibaba’s class, I learned that critical thinking involves several steps. The first step is to identify the problem or issue at hand. This involves gathering all the relevant information about the problem, including its causes, consequences, and potential solutions. The second step is to analyze the information gathered. This involves examining the information critically to determine its relevance and credibility. The third step is to evaluate the information gathered. This involves assessing the information to determine its strengths and weaknesses, and to identify any biases or assumptions that may be present. The fourth step is to develop a solution or decision based on the analysis and evaluation of the information gathered.
In applying critical thinking in decision making, we are taught the importance of considering different perspectives and viewpoints. This involves being open-minded and considering all possible alternatives before arriving at a decision. It also involves examining the assumptions and biases that may be present in our thinking and considering how they may be affecting our decision making.
Furthermore, Mrs Anibaba’s highlighted the importance of using evidence-based reasoning in decision making. This involves using facts, data, and other relevant information to support our decisions. It also involves being aware of any biases or assumptions that may be present in the evidence we are using and being critical in our evaluation of it.
In conclusion, critical thinking in decision making is an essential skill that every individual should possess. It helps us to make well-informed decisions that are based on sound reasoning and evidence. This has really changed the way I view things and even left me questioning how much of my own thinking is really mine and uninfluenced. I look forward to how much of a changed person I would be at the end of this programme, while I may still have a long way to go, I’m learning the importance of asking questions and it has left me feeling very curious about everything lately.
