We have been on this journey of MBA with the Lagos Business School (LBS) for about 2 months now and things seem to be getting a bit more interesting. As class exercises pile up, so does assignments increase in our hands, in spite of our official workloads that stare us in the face immediately after every lecture. I lead the team of Sales Executives in an Information Technology firm based in Africa, with deployment footprint in over 20 countries across Africa and my responsibilities in leading the sales team is enormous I must confess.
In as much as I am passionate about my work, being able to balance between the tasks in LBS and at the same time work, family and religious activities have become a very huge test of how well I can practice effective work-life balance. I am now dealing with real challenges that require being tactful to get a proper hang of things.
Our experience as students has varied from persons to persons based on many factors. I have heard from colleagues who complain of their ability to manage the closely packed activities in the school along with the demands of their daily lives. Some even comment on the effect on their mental healty.
The positive stuff for me here is that, there is something to be excited about. I feel challenged whenever I am tasked with subjects that I am not conversant with. Getting involved and studying to master this subject brings me some motivation that act as reward systems to help me pull through.
Another thing that came up as a huge blessing to me is the crop of class mates who have now turned to friends, coaches and accountability partners along the way. These guys are so smart, of course it should not come as any form of surprise. They have been selected from the best career and academic backgrounds
You cannot have quality education definitely without great faculty. We have value for money when it comes to the set of lecturers that take us on the various subjects. They are seasoned and know their onions. The lecturers endeavour to break every subject down to basics before graduating into the comprehensive and complex parts of their subjects. They are also hinted to be the best you can find in our region.
By the way, LBS follow the standard that top Business schools across the world follow to teach their curriculum. You should not expect anything less as a matter of fact.
What about the group setting, this affords us the opportunity to stay closely connected with a tribe of like minds pursuing the same academic and career development goals. The class groups has become a part of my daily life affair. I am also privileged to lead the class group which helps me to become a lot more responsible in my academic pursuit at LBS
Some of my key takeaways include;
- Strengthened mind and thinking
- Business intelligence and strong analytical prowess
- Being time conscious
- Doing only what matters most at all times
- Giving it a shot, no matter what
