GROWTH MINDSET: SECRET TO KEEP LEARNING AND UNLEARNING

Written by Nkemdilim Adenuga · 1 min read >

The only thing that is constant in life, they said, is change. And anyone that is not willing to embrace change in today’s world stands the chance of becoming irrelevant and obsolete.
Specifically, any entrepreneur that is not ready to embrace change in the fast-paced and ever-changing world of business should be ready to face extinction.
You can’t afford to be doing things or running your business the way you have always done it and expect a different result or stay competitive in the marketplace.
As the day goes by, new technologies, new management models, new marketing strategies, and new leadership/business principles keep evolving. Wisdom demands that an entrepreneur that has foresight should quickly embrace and adapt to these changes instead of being resistant to them.
However, you can’t embrace these changes with a fixed mindset. Rather, you must cultivate what John Maxwell, the Leadership expert, calls the growth mindset. And one of the hallmarks of a growth mindset is that it puts in you the constant desire to keep learning and unlearning.
In his book, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, he said growth does not just happen to anyone. You must be intentional about it. To grow in your career, you need to grow in your skills. And to achieve your financial or business goals, you need to learn how money works.
In practical terms, to uncover the secret to keep learning and unlearning, you need to apply the following tips.
Be open to feedback: Feedback helps your business to grow if properly handled. An entrepreneur with a growth mindset encourages feedback from employees, mentors, investors, and customers. Sometimes, the feedback may not be constructive. Other times, it will be. But your willingness to listen to them with an open mind will help you to know what you need to stop doing and what you need to adapt to your business if need be. That, on its own, is a learning process for you, as an entrepreneur.
Be open-minded: Being willing to listen to others with an open mind exposes you to new ideas, perspectives, and feedback. And the knowledge you garnered helps you to grow and evolve as an entrepreneur.
Embrace technology: Technology is constantly changing, and staying up-to-date with the latest tools and platforms can help your business thrive. Thus, you need to explore new technologies and embrace those that can enhance your business processes and efficiency as well as your customers’ experience.
Build a culture of learning in your organization: Encourage your team to attend training sessions, provide opportunities for skill-building, and recognize and reward employees who demonstrate a commitment to learning.
Be curious: Curiosity is a key trait of successful entrepreneurs. Keep asking questions, exploring new ideas, and seeking out knowledge.
In summary, whether you are just starting in business, you are an established entrepreneur, or an aspiring entrepreneur, you must embrace a growth mindset. And let go of a fixed mindset. That is what will make you relevant in the business world.
Do well to apply these secrets of learning and unlearning that I have shared with you. And you will thank me later.
I will see you in my next post.
