A Journey of Self Discovery: My First Weeks as an MBA Student in LBS

Written by Adedayo Adeagbo · 1 min read >

I recently embarked on an exciting journey of self-discovery and knowledge-building when I joined classes for my MBA. Having come from a background in physics, and up to a decade experience in the financial services industry, I realized that a business degree would provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the corporate world.

Choosing Lagos Business School wasn’t much of a challenge to me. It’s a great choice for an MBA program because of its strong academic reputation and curriculum. The school boasts an impressive faculty of leading scholars and industry experts from across all sectors. In addition, the institution has excellent facilities and resources, with a strong international curriculum and exposure to international business research and experience. Furthermore, LBS provides alumni with the necessary skills for success in the business world, and supports them throughout their career journey, satisfying their academic and professional goals.

The first weeks of my MBA program at Lagos Business School have been intense, from the moment I joined my first online class, I knew that I was in for a challenging yet rewarding experience. Along with the traditional MBA curriculum, such as accounting, data analytics, communication and strategy, I am learning the practical applications of finance, as well as gaining an appreciation for all the tools and concepts, such as analysis and forecasting, that are indispensable in a successful business environment.

I am discovering how to analyze complex financial problems and determine optimal solutions. Moreover, my classmates come from various backgrounds and bring with them a wealth of expertise in their respective fields, which I am learning from and adding to my own experience. While I expected the program to be theoretical, I have been pleasantly surprised by the emphasis on hands-on experience. We have already had several case studies and group assignments, which have allowed me to apply the concepts I am learning in class to real-world situations.

Perhaps the most challenging aspect of my first weeks at Lagos Business School has been time management. With a full course load, it has been challenging to balance my academic and personal life. I thought to defer my admission, the workload and expectation is enormously telling on me. I find it hard to balance work, family, and MBA. As a country manager in Scope Markets Ltd, a whole lot of decision is hinged on my participation on the management level, while as a new father, I am more required to cater for the needs of my wife and baby. All these put together as made learning very challenging. However, I am learning to prioritize my tasks and manage my time effectively.

This has been an incredible and enlightening journey so far, and the learning is just getting started. I am excited for what lies ahead and can’t wait to keep pushing the boundaries of my knowledge and explore new worlds. If you are considering pursuing an MBA at Lagos Business School, I highly recommend it. Stay tuned for my next update – this is sure to be an adventure!

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
