I was thrilled when I received the mail from Lagos Business School for an assessment test and I knew that I had to get well prepared for it as there were so many applicants for the program. I surfed the internet for likely questions, went through the exercise pack that was given to us and still it was not enough for me as I knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that cannot be taken granted. I know my director would not let me hear the last of it if things had gone south.
I will drop some tips on how I prepared for the assessment test. Firstly, I started studying early and this gave me more than enough time to review the material that was given to me. If the material is difficult you, start studying early and this gives you enough time to grasp it, practice it and then review it. Did I mention that I is advisable to get a full night’s sleep before the exam.
Secondly, organize your study materials so its easy to pull them out. You don’t want to waste any of your study time looking for stuffs. And if you always study in the same spot, such as a desk in your bedroom, keep your study materials in this area. If you like to study on the go, keep your materials together in your book bag.
Also you need to pick a comfortable place to study. You don’t need a special spot to study. All you need is a quiet place with a table where you can spread out your materials. Identify a place where you feel comfortable studying before your study session starts. Additionally, ask people around you to not disturb you. You need to remove any form of distractions from your study space. If you use your computer to study or feel tempted by your phone, use apps and websites that temporarily block your access to social media. Its easy to get distracted, so do yourself a favour and avoid distractions.
And lastly do not try to cram at all, rather understand all steps, practice and practice till you are good at it. Revise your work till you get all right answers. You might so busy and get tempted to cram since you feel you do not have time to study. Waiting until the night before your test will set you up for failure. It’s hard to memorize a lot of information in a short period of time, so study a little each day over the week before the test so you have time to learn the material.
Fast forward to the day of my virtual assessment test, my interne messed me up. I had to meet a neighbour to assist with me with the password of her wifi. I ended up having the assessment test at her balcony for easy access to internet. I thought within an hour we would be done, but to my surprise, it lasted 3 hours long.
