2020 was a year…
Started on a high, full of promises and blaze trailing. It is said that how a year starts dictates exactly how the whole year will be, something about omen or psycho-magnetic exertion. Things were falling in shape, deals were struck, dynamics were shifting and even levels were changing. Some people went on new adventures, garnered new experiences and made new marks; the year was the dream 2020 many individuals had envisioned a long time hitherto.
Just like a bang in the dark, you could track where it was coming from, but you were not prepared for its hit or impact. It was fast, hard and spiky: maybe not exactly deadly but how do you explain something that hits you on the spine without notice. Just like a ball on the field of soccer, it was contracted from victim to victim with the sense of immediacy to reach a maximum goal of population depletion or gross mortality as the case may relate.
Funny how some curious and adventuresome folks in Asia can drastically affect the peace and alacrity of the whole universe. I can imagine a few folks from a street in Wuhan China, feeding on their delicious looking parboiled reptile just as their bat meal was waiting in the cooking pot. Yummy looking, they did not hesitate to down the delectable dinner. A sneeze here and there could not hold them back as there is no stopping on this sweet journey.
Lol!
Yes, they ate; Now we share in their fill. There is love in sharing, isn’t it? We shared in the love or loss as the case is, and we share in full!
As if the global predicament was not enough, a local menace came on the rising that eventually led to one of the most memorable landmarks in the history of Nigeria.
‘EndSars’ as the movement activists tagged it came as both an enlightenment and a drive for change that exposed many Nigerian youths to the possibilities of a better Government and public service that will in the future be pivotal to their respective experiences as far as politics is concerned.
The Nigerian constitution provides for a peaceful protest by the citizens of the country, and the youths in full understanding of this provision chose to exercise their rights in the most demonstrative manner by coming out en-masse to display their disgruntlement strategically at the monumental Lekki toll gate where they believed would catch the attention of the powers that be. And that exactly it did, even more than they expected it to.
It however did not have the best consequences as it turned out to be a dark and bloody October to remember for the present youths and the whole country as a whole. There were reports of physical harassment earlier in the day by the state police before the night was soiled by the blood of young men and women by the Army. The lofty dreams of many were shattered before time as many were transcended to lofty celestial spheres by bullets burrowing through their bloodied hearts.
That moment was too emotional and truly, may their blood, tears and sweat not be in vain.
Nonetheless, 2020 was a year full of promises, yes, we cried, we wept, we won and yes there are still more blazes to trail.
Cheers to life!
