Continuation from my previous post…
In my previous post, I wrote about my first Month in Data Analytics class at LBS. This post is a continuation from my previous post regarding the subject matter.
Almost all the later topics is going to be a build-up on most of the topics that were earlier treated. A typical example is probability that it’s going to have a major bearing on topics like forecasting, sensitivity analysis, regression analysis and so much more.
Next to be considered is the third question, thus, ‘what is the knowledge gap between where I am currently and where I want to be with regard to Data Analytic’? This question give birth to more questions; Why do I look totally lost in class in so many of the topics on probability? What am I lacking to be successful in this class? Where does my problem stem from – is it from lack of understanding of the questions or from translating the questions from statement to mathematical expression? To answer these questions, I considered going through the course outline once more and again glanced through them. I understand that there exists a huge gap of almost seventy percent (70%) between where I should be and where I am currently in this course. I identified the major challenging part of the course as understanding the questions and translating it from statement to mathematical expression, then, lack of studying the next topic before the class.
What next after identifying the knowledge gap and the source of the knowledge gap. Three certain ways I identify as a means of closing the gap; dedicating at least eight hours per week to Data Analytic course for the next three weeks, going back to the basics and study as much materials as possible on the course and study the next topic prior to class. Thank goodness, there are so many courses on Coursera that covers all the contentious topics which I am currently leveraging on. And in the past one week, I have made huge progress on the troubling topics by reading more and more material on these topics and I so much believe that going at this pace, I would be able to cover all the troubling topics in the next two weeks.
Now what? To gauge my progress, I have identified key performance indicators that would help me determine if I am on the right track to success. Most importantly, I have considered the following matrix weekly; how many hours have I put into the course work daily and weekly? What is my level of comprehension of each topic studied? What is my performance level after each week on every topic? How is my performance is with regard to treating all the exercise questions that follows every topic studied? How is my understanding of the questions being currently? And, do I now have capacity to understand the questions clearly and translating them from statement form to mathematical expression? Going by my one-week assessment, I could see some tremendous progress as I solve more and more exercise questions. Studying materials from different other source also help me understands some of the topics in a simplified form. My overall performance would be assess after the three weeks period.
