Taking a decision to put an end for an innocent life is considered to be one of the worst crimes in many societies. In fact, it is illegal and whoever are involved in the abortion should be punished with a long jail time. While the Doctors involved in these surgeries or subscribing pills must be refrained from practicing any surgery and their licenses should be withdrawn. However, in some countries and states, abortion is legal under specific reasons and circumstances.
Segregating between the deliberate and unintentional abortion is very important. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, around 73 million abortions take place worldwide, each year. Unsafe abortion done by untrained people and invasive methods is very risky on the women’s health throughout her life. Complications of unsafe abortion might damage internal organs and develop infections which lead to the women’s death.
Several reasons lead to the induced abortion; it could be due to medical reasons and complications during pregnancy such as infections or fetus genetical development or the uterus’ weakness and inability to carry twins or more.
Genetic disorders can be detected during early pregnancy. However, taking the decision whether to give birth or not is considered to be the most crucial and difficult decision. The implications and difficulties which will be faced by the child during his/her life will be psychological and physical. The parents’ role will have a significant impact on the ability to overcome those challenges and being able to support.
The highest percentage of terminating pregnancy is planned and willful. The motivations differ, be it due to a rape or embryo’s gender or unintended pregnancy in certain marital status socioeconomic factors, such as being unable to raise a child either in terms of expenses or career growth (her education or work).
In closed and conservative societies (cultures), the gender is a social dilemma. For instance, there are fathers looking for a boy as their first child while other parents or families reject the girls.
Social acceptance may play a role in such decision due to the fact that “Single Mother” is not accepted in the society and will be discriminated and will face harmful practices. Keeping in mind that there are laws implying the necessity of having the identity and acceptance of the second partner in order to able to generate an identity card.
From Sharia and Religious perspectives, unless the pregnancy will put in danger the mother’s life (medical reasons) it is deemed to be forbidden.
To agree or disagree on all the possible reasons (including the non-listed ones) for abortion, is an infinite debate. It is advisable and appropriate to leave the judgment for personal opinions and believes. Not to forget that adoption could be an option in the case whereby the fetus is in healthy condition. Especially if the planning to abort is taking place while knowing that other couples are fighting to have a child but due to medical reasons, it is not happening. Giving the child to someone would be much better than putting an end of a new life.
