First Day At Lagos Business School

Written by Otaoghene Oki · 1 min read >

Friday, January 20, 2023, was one of those days when I wake up feeling excited about what the new day had in stock for me. The excitement of the new phase in life I was stepping into and not the usual wake up, get ready for work, get to the office, do perform my JDs with sometimes going over and above them, hit the designated close of work time, possibly hang out with friends and or family for drinks or a social relaxing time to catchup on where you left out on things the last time we all saw.

This was the first time I ever step foot into the Lagos Business School premise despite not knowing how many times I had gone past the surrounding of the school; this day coincided with the EMBA 28 student orientation program.

I in my usual routine, woke up at 4am to get ready for work. I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure what the program would bring me and if I really had everything put together to attain my purpose of enrolling as a student at LBS sorted out, despite feedback from some Lagos Business School alumni. I however continued to reassure myself that I could achieve it. I missed the address of the School Dean because I came a little bit late. I was barely seated when Professor Uzo took the stage to talk about Opus Dei and its importance to the school. I originally thought the Lagos Business School belonged to Professor Pat Utomi, so this session really stood out for me. Before the professor started explaining the concept of Opus Dei and the school ownership, he asked for each executive to do a formal introduction of their professional background and other engagements they are into. This session immediately changed my view of the program. The more people introduced themselves, the more I understood why one of my friends who is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School recommended that I got enrolled in this program. After the introduction, I came to the realization that the benefits of doing the MBA program were immense and networking to create one’s value cannot be overemphasized.

I made a very conscious decision to pay attention to all the Executives and their various professional endeavours as the program progressed as my goal is to be an executive that stands out in his career.

I look forward to leveraging this in the future while looking forward to creating value for the benefit of other executives.

When I Look back and relish on the day I made the decision not minding whatever it was I was dealing with currently, in a bid to join this esteemed program I am very confident to say I had made the right choice. It may seem like a lot, but it is worth the investment. I may not be an authority in recommending this program and or school to anyone since I have not spent so much time in it, but I can so far say it is a place to be for anyone who wants to stand out in their career journey.

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
