Man As a Higher Animal

  • Thinking about the similarities and differences between plants and animals can help us comprehend how people vary from them.
  • Man has always been referred to as a Rational Animal.
  • Instincts are automatic, natural dispositions to behave in a certain way.
  • Hormones are essential for controlling emotions, which in turn influences animal behavior. Various hormone types are responsible for that;
  • When danger is present, adrenaline hormone is released, preparing the body for “fight or flight” by boosting blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar levels while also contracting muscles.
  • Depression is brought on by a deficiency of the hormone serotonin.
  • Man learns faster by repeating action originally performed by chance. 
  • our physiological make up and past experiences have a big effect on our emotions
  • Human beings behave both Rationally and Irrationally. As a result we should learn to ammonize different behaviors.
  • The Trafigura and Ivory Coast video talks about the illegal export of waste amongst countries. It explains how the toxic waste affected the citizens of Ivory Coast and the repercussions that followed such as death of children and health risk to the adults

  • Reframing involves turning external problems into internal chances for development. It’s important because when we do it, we direct our adrenaline toward productive activity rather than letting it flare up uncontrollably.
  • Calming your mind so you can concentrate on a task is mindfulness. Our impression of how to handle issues is impacted by wandering thoughts.
  • Problems are “overviewed” or “under viewed” by us.Being mindful facilitates concentration and increases productivity.
  • Giving the intellect a difficult problem to understand and solve. When battling anxiety, it’s typically the final component.

  • Emotion is an automatic reaction that can aide decision making or be detrimental to decision making.
  • Feelings occur when an emotion is given value.
  • Affect and Mood are feelings and emotions together however, affects are complex

Key learnings

Human emotions have been shaped by evolution. To manage your emotions, is to educate them. We however, need to step back in order to be aware of them. v
