Keren; Hair Loss & Lice, (Alopecia and Pediculus humanus capitis)?

Written by Sally · 1 min read >

This topic is one that is not talked about so much but I will let you glide through it slowly but first let me share a story with you about a girl named Keren.

Keren is a beautiful miss who seemed optimistic about getting her life goals and was hardworking to ensure she lives life to the fullest. Unfortunately, Keren started to experience a bald situation on her head known as alopecia which is the partial or complete absence of hair from her head.

This reduced her self esteem drastically for years until she met a Trichologist, one who diagnosis and treats the problems of hair, scalp and hair follicles which lead to symptoms of dandruff, texture problems, hair loss and other serious conditions. She was treated.

Now Keren was at the phase of her life where she felt that light has come again, her hair began to grow again and this time fuller that it attracted brands endorsing her for hair care adverts. At this point, she’s back on her feet and winning again.

She took a trip to small town for vacation. She wanted all the relief she could get to relax her body and mind. Suddenly, lice attacked her hair and you know what that means.
Myths has it that when one finds themselves in such situations, they should cut down their hair. Few persons in the resort where she lodged had suggested this option to her. “This must be a joke” Keren thought to herself, considering all she has been through during the stages of her hair loss.
Should she cut the hair or device other options?

Lice are an ectoparasite meaning it lives outside its host.
Ones hair/head is a good one for it to prey, feeding on blood which nourishes it. These species feels comfortable in warm and moist environment of only humans and deposites eggs.

Lice attack has nothing to do with hygiene rather it fleas from one hair to another and so they is 90% chance to attack anyone’s hair who comes in contact with another.

Solutions to curb this is quite simple but tedious and doesn’t permit the use of insecticides in any way. Insecticides spray on ones hair can affect respiration and has other deadly effects. So, aside the use of antinodes that are far fetched, technical equipments may be needed such as nit comb, essential oil well rubbed on the hair or conditioners (allow for longer minutes and if possible hours as long as you can be patient), then a towel to rub off particles when combed using your nit comb.
Other options are the use of relaxer or you go bald which you may not prefer.

Be mindful of hair equipment used.
Avoid getting in contact with hair of infected persons.

Symptoms
Feels of crawling parasite
Head itching

Now that you’ve gotten to this point, are you thinking you might have been experiencing the symptoms of Lice attack? Oh well! I’m sure you know what to do henceforth.

By the way, Keren was just a character in my fictitious story but I’m glad to use her as a tool to share an important information.
