Logical thinking is the ability to process your thoughts and put them on paper clearly and concisely. It is the willingness to ensure your ideas stand out clearly.
Any manager interested in communicating effectively goes through these stages when revising.
- Eliminating wordiness
- Modulating the tone
One of the best ways to sharpen the mind is to write.
The decision to omit verbiage from your writing demonstrates your conviction that you must think and express clearly.
It is challenging, requires a great level of discipline and openness, and compels us to question assumptions with intelligence and empathy though it takes effort and can be extremely challenging on both an emotional and intellectual level, But then, the benefits only start to materialize once only when the effort has become a habit. Writing well for communication requires mental discipline, the drive/willingness to revise, and the innate and acquired capacity to do so(aptitude)
To effectively write, the first step is to create the first draft, and then the work begins.
We can see logical thinking in this scenario
Wordiness: All of the new students who have joined this school are all supposed to attend a compulsory meeting that has been scheduled for Monday the 5th of October, 2022.
Correction: New students are required to attend a meeting on Monday 5th, October.
Cross-cultural communication
Cross culture communication is talking or communicating with different people from different nationalities. And so requires CQ. It is important to note that Cultural Intelligence, also known as CQ is an extremely vital skill that every manager must have especially in a world where crossing boundaries is a routine.
Cultural intelligence resides in the body(physical) and The ability to mirror people’s gestures or customs. and the heart(emotional) is about being highly motivated. confronting obstacles, setbacks, or even failure with greater vigour, as well as the head(cognitive)- this is using your initiative to know or understand the foreign audience and deciding to learn to mirror them.
For example, A presidential Candidate needs to pay a visit to a northern Muslim state. It will be wise for you to look like them. Dressing like them is not enough, however, learning a few greetings and gestures will be of great help to him. Especially when you want their assistance.
Example;
Moving from KPMG Lagos to KPMG Japan. Although people may speak English in the Company does not mean that it is the official language, Learning a bit of their culture, will help you align accordingly. For instance, shaking your elders first and giving eye contact is considered very rude in Japan, but in Nigeria, it is seen as a sign of confidence.
Imagine a scenario where a new manager comes in from Lagos with no prior knowledge or research on the country’s culture and stretches his hands out and maintains eye contact while addressing a high net-worth Japanese client, irritating him. – Absence of CQ.
As opposed to if he had done the appropriate research and taken time to observe how things are being done in the country and at the company.
To be culturally intelligent, you need to diagnose your Intelligence and know areas for improvement.
