Wizkid dropped his fourth studio album titled More Love Less Ego MLLE yesterday November 11th 2022 and its topping charts already. It’s a 14-track album, with both local and internal features such as Arya Starr, Naira Marley, Skepta and Don Toliver. This album is sequel to Made in Lagos deluxe which dropped in 2021.
This is just the second day since the album dropped so I do not have a detailed review on each song but most of the songs on this album are slow beat cool vibe music you would cruise to while you’re driving or performing an activity. One thing about Wizkid’s songs is they tend to grow on you as you keep listening because you do not have a full understanding of the songs at first. Unlike other artistes that drop club bangers that become melodies for a short time because of the beats, Wiz drops project for the long term.
As a perfectionist, he ensures everything about his music comes out right from the beat to the recordings, cover photo, fonts, time of release etc. This is also because wiz is an international artiste so he really needs to drop world class standard that is expected of him. For example, this album was meant to drop about a week ago but this was around the time a colleague in the industry lost his toddler so Wiz postponed the album release as a way of sympathizing with the bereaved. Otherwise, if he had dropped it regardless, he would have come off as being insensitive and this might affect the response to the album because the first few days of the album should be gathering enough momentum to propel the album and not lagging due to inappropriate release time.
Prior to this album, Wizkid has dropped four others titled Superstar, sounds from the other Side, Sound man Vol 1 (an EP), Made in Lagos and Made in Lagos deluxe. Superstar was his first album which brought Wiz to limelight. It is often said only Wizkid and Wande coal have every song on their debut album as a hit. Superstar was released in 2011 when Wizkid was signed to banky W’s EME Music and he release his second album Sounds from the other side under this label. Around 2013/2014, Wizkid left EME music to start his own record label called Star Boy Music. Under his own umbrella, he has released an Ep called Soundman, an album called Made in Lagos and Its deluxe and now he just dropped More Love Less Ego MLLE.
Made in Lagos was a huge success for Wizkid because this album was a global hit. One year after the album dropped it was still topping charts worldwide and this is rather uncommon because most songs reach their peak within 3-4 months after release and then people just move on to another. This was not the case with MIL. The song Essense featuring Tems was the leading song on the album. It was the song of the year globally. Due to how big this particular song was and the album too, Wizkid had a Made in Lagos tour in America, Canada and he did something interesting in the UK. He sold out the 20,000 capacity O2 arena for three nights back-to-back. This has not been done before.
