Yes, it’s really been tough learning how to write. Writing is indeed work! This is my very first learning in the management communications course.
Why do I find writing so hard. There is this general belief that it is indeed difficult to express one’s thoughts through writing, and if you ask for my opinion; yes, is my answer. I mean, what can be difficult as writing.
I must at this juncture say that my learnings from the management communications class have removed this fear of writing from me. At least, when it comes to writing, there is no longer a struggle or any iota of fear. The way and manner the faculty has taught the course and everything about management communications has indeed made writing a thing to look forward to doing.
Let me sincerely appreciate Dr. Tunde Ekpe and Mrs. Atinuke Adelakun for their doggedness, patience and understanding in ensuring that writing becomes a thing to enjoy rather than endure. These duos have had to sacrifice a lot into impacting me positively to love writing, and I owe whatever I have come to know about writing to them both.
Let me give a practical example of my learning in management communications which has to do with constant writing. The day the faculty mentioned about the fact that we shall begin to blog on a weekly basis was actually a very sad day for me, as I was never a fan of writing. But just as we were encouraged to start anyhow, we can, I started. We were actually taught that the secret to writing is to keep writing. I am of the opinion that this statement is not only profound, but also enlightening and encouraging; it has helped me a great deal.
In the course of our management communications course, we were also introduced to online courses on punctuations and specialized courses with Harvard business school. These exposures have really been worth the while for me. I had to learn more about punctuation marks, how to go about presentation, how to write a correct business plan, learnt basic things about writing, about clarity, pronunciation and so on; the list is indeed endless.
Let me conclude this short piece by saying a very big thank you to the faculty for their time and help in re-shaping my passion for writing. I have not only developed this new passion for writing, but writing has also become a passion for me. Writing is no longer a struggle for me, as it has become a thing I relish, no thanks to the weekly blogging task. Once again, a big thank you to the entire faculty.
Finally, my advice to anyone reading this piece is pretty much simple: Never be afraid to write and start writing by writing. This is one thing I have practically come to discover. You actually learn how to write by writing. Just scribble things down whether it makes meaning or not. You would discover that ideas begin to flow when you sit to write. When you write, you then go back to edit your words. This regular practice enhances your writing skills and you become better at it by the day. So, keep writing!
