Two years ago, I dropped my first clothing collection for my fashion brand kolzy couture. Though this one didn’t have a name but I remember how excited I was working on it, shooting it and then dropping it. This was somewhat my first official solo project and I learnt a lot from it.
It was around October 2020, when I decided to make a collection for my kaftan product so as to have quality content to promote the brand. I decided to make completely plain designs in short sleeves and in five colors. This was the best I could come up with at the time but I made sure I put in my best to ensure quality production of the outfits and good pictures to portray the designs.
I was the model for all five outfits and that was when I realized models do a whole lot of work and it is actually a real job. I struggled a lot with my facial expressions during the photoshoot but eventually I found a suitable face to wear for most of the shoots and this saved both time for the photographer and myself.
My old friend Tobi shot this particular collection and I must have frustrated him with the kind of facial expressions I was making then but he was really patient. The pictures came out nice, the demand was fairly okay too.
In 2021, I tried to drop another collection but for one reason or another, it did not just work out. There was a whole lot happening last year and this didn’t allow the opportunity surface. Then came 2022, I had the same intentions as the previous year but putting the designs together wasn’t just possible.
I decided to not force the process. I worked hard on improving my personal sewing skills as I had wanted to fully produce this particular collection myself and also direct the shoot.
Fast-forward to September 2022, I met a new photographer and after sometime he reached out to me about seeing my designs I often uploaded on my status and would like to shoot my collection.
This then prompted me to get to work as my new friend kept checking up to know how much progress I had made with production. I was done producing the designs between 15-20 days. I made a total of five designs. I didn’t replicate the same design on all five outfits as I had done before.
I put in some extra effort to add extra details to each fit and this resulted into very premium designs. I still maintained my identity with keeping it cool and the clothes are a perfect representation of my identity. These are clothes I would wear 7 days a week without a second thought.
My close connection with these designs prompted me to name the collection Being Kolzy as the clothes are a symbolical reflection of my persona; calm and easy. It’s been about two weeks since I dropped the collection and the impressions from the response has been amazing. Better than that of my first collection. I can foretell the revenue this particular collection would generate is none like I have ever seen.
In about a month from now, I would be putting out some pieces again. Though there is no clear inspiration of how it would go but I know it would be three designs and it would be the best I have ever done.
