MMBA 3 Elections

Written by masterchief · 1 min read >

Elections are always interesting because people are given the chance to decide whom they want as their leader. Voters are charged with passion and in some cases are ready to do anything to see their candidate emerge as the winner. They spend their time and resources campaigning for their preferred candidate and on the election day, they cast their vote. In most cases, they vote for the candidate who will help them advance their personal interests.

The MMBA(Modular Masters of Business Administration) 3 cohort elections were held yesterday 21st, April 2022. It was a perfect contrast to what elections usually are. There was no passion, nobody campaigned and no one showed any real interest in vying for any of the available positions until the election day. There were 3 positions to be contested; namely, Governor, Deputy Governor, and Social Secretary. The deputy governor position was uncontested and there was no candidate for the social secretary position. The two contestants for the position of the governor were Mshelia aka Shatu and Onyinye. Mshelia, decided to run on the election day. The only candidate for the position of deputy governor was Wonuola aka Wonu and there was no candidate for the social secretary position.

The election was held online via Zoom a few minutes after 7 pm. It was conducted by the manager of the modular MBA program, Chinedu Okoro. The contestants were asked to present their manifestos. They did and we were ready for the elections proper. However, most of us were not convinced by their manifestos as it became clear that they had not thought much about their plans because their ideas were vague. They did not have time to think because they were not really eager about the position and made the decision to run late.

The election did not last long. Chinedu created a poll on Zoom and shared it with the class. We voted and within a few minutes, the election was over.

Deciding whom to vote for was easy. Everybody knows Shatu. She was present during the orientation in January and the intensive week in March. She is jovial, easy to relate with, and participates actively in class. She also has an accent which makes her unique. She has acted as the “information officer” since the beginning of the MMBA 3 program by always sharing useful information and sending the zoom link of every lecture to everyone via the MMBA3 cohort WhatsApp group.

Onyinye lives in the eastern part of the country and was not present during the orientation and the intensive week. Although she participates actively in class and seems like a jovial and easy-going person, little is known about her.

Shatu won by a landslide victory. She asked Onyinye to be our Social Secretary and she agreed. We expect that Shatu will be a good governor and do a good job for the class. She has been working for us without any official position and now that she is our governor, I do not think she will relent.

In Shatu we trust!

Happiness: A Unique Inside Job!
