Nightmare does not only show itself in images of unexpected happenings, shocks and the like but could come in the form of confusion, fear and lack of understanding of what to do in certain situations. To a large extent, it could reveal itself in one’s daily activities and aspirations to get to a higher level in life. Undoubtedly, Analysis of business problem (ABP) as a one of the courses in LBS has become a nightmare for majority of the students. It has been nicknamed “Advanced Blood Pressure” (ABP). The debt of knowledge to unravel with the course is immense and unimaginable. Within the past few weeks, this course looked very difficult to understand by majority of the class members including me. We will be given a case to analyze and when we start presenting the case individually in the class, you will notice that a lot will have varying perspectives. I was forced to ask the lecturer at the last class (26th February, 2022) why it appears that a lot of us have varying perspectives and answers to a particular case and also asked for a typical solution to be sent to us for a proper review. The lecturer had to tell us that the solution will not help us but rather make us lazy and not ready to study the course with the intention of understanding how to analyze business problems whenever we are confronted with one objectively. It was at this point, I realized that the course isn’t a child’s play. A lot us eventually agreed with the lecturer on the philosophy of “dig it out yourself’.
Analysis of business problem is a must have skill for managers and business owners. It allows you see the problem exactly the way it should be seen, and then deciding the objective of your analysis having understood and identified the problem. The objective of the problem is aimed at identifying what success looks like. The next step is to generate alternatives. What are the ways or options to analyzing the case? Then you decide your criteria to be used in analyzing the case. The next step is analyzing the alternatives against the criteria then make a choice based on the evidences you have from the analysis.
The course which was once seen as a nightmare, is sincerely beginning to make sense. This revelation got dawn on us after the class of 26th February, 2022. Everyone is eagerly ready for another case to be analyzed with enthusiasm and eagerness to give it all it takes to pieces the case in-depth and make a worthwhile recommendation.
Analysis of Business problem originally referred to as “Advance Blood Pressure” is beginning to be seen as it is really is and well appreciated.
