Carl Jung discussed ideology possession, suggesting that ideologies possess individuals rather than individuals possessing ideologies.
Here is the thing, we live in an age of ‘ideologies’; people have now grouped themselves based on ideologies and ideas. We have democracy, liberalism, stoicism, globalism, and various religions. I don’t have issues with this, it is normal. However, it should be noted that ideologies are based on ideas, and ideas need to be updated and informed to stay relevant.
Information
Information is time-specific. As time goes by, people are exposed to more information. That is how the world has been since its inception. It took our ancestors hundreds of years to know that they could sharpen stone to make it a more effective hunting tool. It took a thousand more years before they realized metals were more effective. As time passes, people get exposed to more information. That’s why the new generation knows better than the old. The old teach with experience, but the new has more information.
This is why I am sad that some of you cling to ideologies without information; you have no single piece of information on that which you follow; when I speak of information, I do not mean data gotten from conventional media. Conventional media is designed to generate profit, and to generate profit, one has to distort information to inspire people to buy. This is how advertising is constituted. I’m talking about research – data, statistics; because ideologies are informed by data, and data is informed based on time.
Today, an ideology may be useful, but tomorrow it will become obsolete. How would you know if the ideology you cling so tightly to is still relevant when all you read are entertainment blogs on social media?
John Grisham writes about law, but he takes great care to research legal procedures. Chase writes about crime, and he is careful to research crime processes. Dan Brown writes about religious symbols and archeology, but he is careful to research these processes. How do Africans write about Africa and have not a tiny sneaking clue about Africa? HOW?
Africans rely on foreign anthropologists and researchers to tell them ‘everything’ about their continent…hmmm. These same Africans will then carry the ideologies as if they understood its history, without a single study on their own! None!
Ideologies appear to function mostly by informing identities and egos. People nowadays are more proud of being classed as feminists than of taking genuine practical actions to ameliorate women’s plight. Carl Jung discussed ideology possession, suggesting that ideologies possess individuals rather than individuals possessing ideologies. This is especially evident when we witness people defending specific beliefs at the expense of their logic.
Here is a bit of free advice; Before plastering an ideology over your identity, inform yourself first, please!
P.S. Take this with a pinch of salt
THE BEGINNING OF THE END
Interesting.
You ask us to beware of obsolete, uninformed ideologies. Then you end by telling us to take all you have written with a pinch of salt.
Interesting…
