The Business ethics case introduces us to Dilinna Carter founder of Green Forests Incorporated a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). She met Yahaya Ahmed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DARE an organization with a 10 year CER certification. CER certification is a Certified Emission Reduction Certificate issued by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). In line with environmental principles, the duo decided to sell a stove called the Save80. The Save80 stove was sold along with the WonderBox as a double package. The Save80 is a stove that required just 20% compared to the normal stoves in the market. The WonderBox is a vital component that comes with the Save80 stove. The product is supplied by a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) called Lernan Helfen Leban e. V (LHL eV). The NGO “LHL eV” experienced a challenge with getting a mandatory Letter of Approval (LoA), this caused a major lag in the environmental and economical impact Green Forest Limited on the state of the world.
This is a case study shows one isolated event but, it is just one of the many man made clog in the wheel. These events shape the kind of tomorrow we hope to leave behind. We have gotten so use to the environmental fight on social media, that we forget environmental degradation is real. Climate change is a major threat to our tomorrow and many don’t see it as a crisis yet. In the words of Environmental activist Greta Thunberg
Adults keep saying we owe it to the young people, to give give them hope, but I don’t want your hope. I don’t want to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel everyday. I want you to act. I want you to act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if the world is on fire, because it is.
Greta Thunberg
This summarizes the issue of climate change. Tomorrow may never come, because we have abused it today. Change is hard, deliberate change is even harder but that is the only option on the table. We must pacify nature now before She picks up arms because she is brutal. Ask the dinosaurs!
As a species, we have made valiant efforts in tackling this crisis. Some of the good deeds of mankind is:
Kyoto protocol
This was an international treaty that refined the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The protocol required state parties to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Kyoto protocol introduced the concept called Carbon trading and Carbon credits.
Paris Climate Agreement
The Kyoto protocol is often perceived as a failed cause. A new agreement was negotiated by 196 parties at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference near Paris, France. This agreement is often referred to as the Paris Accords or the Paris Climate Accords. It is the most current international treaty on environmental issues adopted in 2015. It covers climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, and finance for new eco friendly operations.
